Why pray at night?

This is one question,I have often heard people ask me concerning the mid-night prayers we have each Month,’why pray at night?Maybe they are those asking the same question in their hearts,therefore I have taken the initiative to devout this article to answering this question as much as I can here.

First and foremost,I want to state that prayers are not only to be made in the day but also in the night.By ‘night’ I mean hours that extends till and past 12 mid-night.We are to pray without ceasing day and night,1Thess.5:17. We shouldn’t just pray in the day,but we should also engage in prayer during the night when it’s inconvenient.There’s no sacrifice too big to make in securing heaven’s attention and to enjoy communication with God.Sparing few hours of the night to tarry and have sweet communion with the One who gave His life for you is really worth it.If there’s anytime in history  Christians should be awake to prayer,it is now as the coming of the Lord and the end of the World draws near. Jesus said in Luke21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

In 4th August 2010,sense the Lord spoke to my heart concerning the prayer night and said,”My people have slept too long let the night prayer meeting be a sign of convenant that they are ready to be awake.  We have seen our lives touched and revive,since then for our God is a convenant keeping God.God has set-up this ‘sign of convenant’ not just for us only but for you reading this and for His people in the Land. Rom 13:11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.

Lam 2:19 Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children, that faint for hunger in the top of every street.We have slept for too long and the Lord is challenging us to wake-up,and cry out in prayer during the night,the situations around us warrants us to do this now.People around us are starving for lack of spiritual food.

In the spirit realm,mid-nights hours are very vital,a lot of activities happens around us spiritually when we sleep. That’s when important decisions are made also by the evil spirits against the destinies of men.Please don’t misunderstand me,I’m not saying you shouldn’t sleep on your bed but to sacrifice few hours of the night atleast once a while to partner with heaven for our’s and other’s destiny.This is one secret of being a strong Christian,as the Lord has showed me.Our Lord Jesus,recognise the importance of the night,listen to what He said in Mat 13:25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.He spent countless nights in prayers to His Father,and we are expected to be like our Lord,isn’t it?.Lets look at few accounts;Luk 6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.Mat 14:23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.Even in the night in which was to be betrayed He prayed to the extent the sweat coming out of His body was thick as blood Luke22:39-46.

The bible is full of stories of men and women,apart from Our Lord who made sacrifices during the night hours in communion with God. Jacob, David, Moses, Nehemiah, Jeremiah, Daniel, Anna the Prophetess, Paul and Silas just to name a few.May God help us to hear the cry of the Spirit and rise-up to tarry with Him during the night hours.Gen32,Acts16:25,Exo.12:29.
