He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given,Matt.13:11.
As we are fully aware that the Kingdom of God is full of mysteries which God is unveiling to His people all through generations.If you read through the bible from Genesis to Revelation,you will find a lot of mysteries been unveil .One mystery God has revealed and I want to share here in the next couple of posts,is the mystery of praying in the midnight hours.Especially now that the days we are living in,is growing in wickedness and evil,we really need to engage in this ”secret weapon” of midnight prayers.The devil knows about this secret I’m revealing here,even if you don’t believe, it doesn’t matter,you ‘ll believe when we get to heaven someday.
It’s time for Christians and churches to ‘wake-up’ and seize the privilege of laying hold of God not only in the day time but also in the midnight hours and to wage war against forces of darkness like the saints of old .As a christian or church you may never reach certain heights and maintain it,without making the sacrifice of praying in the midnight hours,at least once in a Month,if you’re a busy person.In every true revivals that have happened through down history,you ‘ll see a common feature of men and women,even children tarrying in God’s presence during the midnight hours.We shall look at bible characters,and some old saints in this generation who engaged in it later in other posts.
There are various reasons why a christian or church should engaged in midnight prayers,here are just few;Firstly,God commands us to do it,for reasons best known to Him.As Christians we are to pray always,both day and night,1Thess.4:17.We are commanded in different verses and portions of the bible to do it just like in this verse in Lamentation 2:9,Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord….
Departed saints who knew about the mystery of the night have left an example for us to follow (we shall look at some of the saints later,that’s a promise!),even our Lord Jesus while He was here on earth in human form was found praying in the midnight hours and few of such episode was recorded for us as an example,could we then not follow in the step of our Lord?Checkout this account of Him,Luk 6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.Mat 14:23 And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.Even in the night in which was to be betrayed He prayed to the extent the sweat coming out of His body was thick as blood Luke22:39-46.
Secondly,this hours are the spiritual active period of the day.These early hours of a day contains vital spiritual energy release into the atmosphere.Physically it is the most quietest hours because many are sleeping but not so spiritually. A lot of spiritual activities both good and bad takes place during this hours,which determines how a day might look like physically. That’s why someone may wake up in the morning feeling sad,even before meeting a neighbour because the enemy has fired arrow of sadness into his life while he was sleeping. One day I woke up in the morning,and was so sad/depressed,and was just wondering about the sadness,when the Spirit of God now whisper that the enemy is behind it,He reminded me of Matt.13:25.Then I engaged in warfare prayer and suddenly the sadness lifted off me. Thirdly,these are hours when the powers and forces of darkness usually hold their meetings.Ask any occultic person who’s ready to open up and he will tell you that they usually meet in their group at this hours to deliberate on their activities. Lastly but not the least, revelations,dreams,divine visitations and demonic attacks usually occurs at this time especially when people are sleeping.
Even the psalmist knew that, the midnight hours are full of terrors,he refers to it as…the terror by night Psalm91:5a. Job also noticed that the midnight hours are the time when people are cut off.. Job36:20. The spiritual controls the physical-before anything happens physically it has to happen first, spiritually.And the midnight hours are the hours when the things that happens physically are first decided in the spiritual realm.I mean nothing at all happens physically without first happening spiritually. Jesus also said that it is during this hours while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way Matt.13:25.
When God was going to deliver the Israelites from Egypt and from Pharaoh’s hands, it was in the midnight that God did what He did that secured freedom for Israel.And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt… Exo.11:4. And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt..Exo.12:29. If God Himself could utilise the midnight hours in dealing with stubborn Pharaoh and Egyptians gods,whom have refused Israel to go free despite several attempts,is it not a pointer to us that there’s a secret behind midnight hours? The people of Israel were awake as instructed by God as He passed through Egypt same night. Today there are ”many Pharaohs” holding the people of God hostage but God is waiting for us to partner with Him especially in the midnight hours for our ‘total benefits’.It was also in the midnight hours,that the angel of the Lord went out and slew 185,000 enemies of God’s people. And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning…2Kings19:35.
