There is a vital question which I believe God is asking us this day, that is, ”when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep”. When you look at our Churches today, it’s a far cry compare to the early Church, where you saw a community of people loving God and loving others, the others here are not just the people in the same Church, housegroup/cell or whatever but even people outside it. The state of spiritual sleepiness and ‘slumberingness’ in the Church today calls for serious concern. A man sleeping doesn’t know what is love, isn’t it true in our Churches today that because of the presence of sleep, there is an absence of love in our lives, for God and others who have been made in His image. Because of the presence of sleep we have racism, hatred, anger, gossips, malice, jealousy, strive, contentions, wickedness and more vices in the Church today, for where all this exists, then there is no love. When wilt thou arise out of thy sleep and begin to live a life of love towards God and all people? The verse below reminds us that we are to awake out of our sleep for love sake. Rom.13:10-11 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
Another vital evidence that the Church is sleeping is the large amount of souls perishing out there,heading to eternal hell. Our generation is perishing yet we are sleeping, doing little or nothing about it, O ye, hear the voice of the Master saying, ”when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? This is time for great harvest of souls,but isn’t the harvest out there decaying because the Church is sleeping. In the Church today we have politicians instead of preachers,democracy instead of theocracy, fight for popularity and recognition instead of advancement for the Kingdom, pulling others down just to climb-up syndrome,why souls are there perishing. Pro 6:6-8, Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
The Church is sleeping that’s why prayer have be relegated to the background. Even when we gather, we ”play instead of pray”. We prefer to party away into the nights like the people of the World instead of tarrying in prayers, no wonder spiritual poverty is evident in our midst. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against partying, but whereby it has become a lifestyle in our lives like the unbelievers then something is wrong. Pro 6:10-11 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man.
Rom. 13:13 We should live in a right way, like people who belong to the day. We should not have wild parties or be drunk. We should not be involved in sexual sin or any kind of immoral behavior. We should not cause arguments and trouble or be jealous (ERV). There is no better time to awake out of sleep than now,we are living in a very crucial period of human history in which the end of all things are at hand. FEAR NOT but WAKE-UP and BE PREPARE!
